What We Believe

We Are a Progressive Christian Community

So, what exactly does that mean?

• We are unapologetically progressive. We are guided by the teachings of Jesus to challenge injustice and pursue peace. We take bold stands on issues that matter — environmental stewardship, racial equity, LGBTQ+ rights, climate change, and more — because we believe that faith should inspire action for a better world.

• We take the Bible too seriously to take it literally. We find truth in scripture through careful study and application which illuminates the human condition both then and now.

• We believe that we were made to live in communities rooted in justice and equality where all are valued and loved for being their most authentic selves.

• We are a community of traditional Christians, questioning skeptics, believers and agnostics alike.

• We believe that we are closer to God when we are asking questions than when we think we have all the answers.

• We believe that God’s will and way were revealed to us in the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus.

• We take seriously the commandment of Jesus to love God, to love our neighbor, and to love ourselves.

• Love of neighbor includes affirmation of the LBGTQ community, immigrants, people of other faith traditions, people of all abilities.
