Justice Work
At Rocky Hill Congregational Church, we believe that dismantling racism is not only a spiritual imperative but a collective responsibility.
Rooted in our faith and guided by compassion, we strive to examine the sin of racism, confront the enduring impact of white supremacy, and work toward creating communities where everyone belongs. In doing so, we work to understand our own unconscious biases and to develop our skills as allies, advocate for systemic change, and invite people across the broader community to join us in this transformative work.
Putting Faith into Action
Our commitment to racial justice takes many forms, such as:
Highlighting justice issues during worship services
Standing against neo-Nazi activity in our town and beyond
Hosting an anti-racism-themed Free Little Library
Organizing book groups focused on anti-racism topics
Holding inclusion events and speaker series
Supporting critical legislation (e.g., Fair Share Housing Bill, Rent Caps, equal funding for majority-Black school systems, mental health support, healthcare for undocumented immigrants)
Encouraging voter participation through “get out the vote” initiatives
Investigating our church’s historic role in slavery and racism
Through these efforts, we hope to inspire deeper understanding, foster meaningful dialogue, and encourage tangible steps toward equality for all. See Recommendations for Further Learning below.
Building Partnerships for Change
We recognize that we cannot do this important work alone. That is why we partner with organizations dedicated to equity and justice, including:
Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA)
Open Communities Alliance
DesegregateCT
CT Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity
Coalition of Diversity and Equity (CODE)
Rocky Hill Commission on Inclusion and Innovation
By collaborating with these and other groups, we broaden our impact and learn from the diverse insights and expertise they bring.
We welcome all who share our passion for racial justice, whether you are a member of Rocky Hill Congregational Church or someone in the wider community.
If you are interested in getting involved, consider joining our Racial Justice Team or volunteering at one of our events. Together, we can stand against racism, support inclusive policies, and continue building a more just world for everyone.
