Being a WISE Church

In 2024, our church took an important step toward supporting all in our community who face mental health challenges.

On October 6, 2024, we voted unanimously to become WISE: Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive and Engaged around issues of mental health and emotional wellness. The WISE designation is a project of the UCC Mental Health Network, and we are proud to be one of more than 70 WISE congregations nationwide.

While we have just begun this journey, some recent projects include:

  • Hosting QPR suicide intervention training for our members

  • Creating a new Wellness Room, β€œThe Retreat,” as a place for quiet reflection and to access educational resources

  • Training members to lead a National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) support group for families of adolescents

  • Hosting monthly quiet reading social groups

  • Working to make our Sunday services more accessible for those with sensory needs

  • Hosting seminars on mental health topics, including depression and resilience
